Mr. Schmidt joined Haines Law Group as its first employee in 2013 and became a Partner in 2018. During his time with Haines Law Group, Mr. Schmidt has been responsible for recovering in excess of $200 million on behalf of employees in cases in which he has served as lead counsel for the plaintiff.

​

Mr. Schmidt has been appointed as class counsel after prevailing on contested motions for class certification numerous times in state and federal courts throughout California. Mr. Schmidt is also one of the few California wage and hour attorneys to have successfully tried a representative action brought under the Private Attorneys General Act, which resulted in a seven-figure judgment. Mr. Schmidt has also been responsible for obtaining multiple seven-figure settlements on behalf of individual employees who experienced workplace discrimination.

Education

A native of Idaho, Mr. Schmidt was awarded the prestigious Coronat Scholarship to attend Syracuse University, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in English and graduated magna cum laude, with honors in 2009. Mr. Schmidt’s honors thesis project on the poetry of Raymond Carver was awarded the William Sauers Prize for the best honors thesis in the humanities.

Mr. Schmidt received his Juris Doctor degree, cum laude, from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles, in 2012, where he was awarded membership in the Order of the Coif (reserved for graduates in the top 10% of their graduating class). During law school, Mr. Schmidt was on the Dean’s Honor List and served as the Chief Research Editor for the Loyola of Los Angeles Entertainment Law Review.
